Abstract: -
A new family of glasses based in InF3 is now emerging as a promissing group of fluoride glasses to fabricate low optical loss fibers operating around 5 µm for delivery from CO laser and, when doped with rare earth for the realization of fiber laser (Nd3+, Er3+, Eu3+, Ho3+) and optical amplifiers operating at 1.3 µm (Pr3+, Pr3+ + Yb3+) and 1.5 µm (Er3+). Fluoroindate glasses present a higher transparency in the mid infrared up to 10 µm than fluorozirconate glasses. The glass forming systems and the main physical and optical properties are reported.
