Abstract: Ein signifikanter Einfluss von körperlicher Aktivität auf Lebensqualität, körperliche und berufliche Leistung, Schmerzen, Fatigue und eine Zunahme des Appetits konnte gezeigt werden. 52,70% der Patientinnen erreichten nach 3 Monaten das empfohlene Aktivitätslevel der WHO von 600 MET-min pro Woche, zur Messung nach 6 Monaten konnte eine Steigerung um 5,41% verzeichnet werden. Vor allem in der Gruppe der Chemotherapie Patientinnen konnte ein höheres Maß an körperlicher Aktivität festgestellt werden und eine größere Steigerung von 3,88% von der 3 zur 6-monatigen Messung. Außerdem zeigte sich bei den Chemotherapie Patientinnen ein größerer Zusammenhang ihres Bewegungsausmaßes mit mittlerer Effektstärke in Bezug auf Lebensqualität, berufliche Leistung und Appetitlosigkeit nach 3 Monaten sowie auf Schmerzen nach 6 Monaten.
Effects of physical activity on quality of life and adverse events of oncological therapy in non-metastatic breast cancer patients Introduction Breast cancer is the most common cancer and affects many women at a young age. The targeted therapies and the improved chances of cure for breast cancer direct the focus more on the adverse events and quality of life during oncological therapy as well as the period afterwards. Physically active patients can reduce the extent and intensity of side effects of oncological therapy and increase well-being and quality of life even during therapy. Material and methodology 74 breast cancer patients were followed for a period of 6 months and data on their quality of life and side effects of therapy were collected within the BeGyn study. Physical activity was measured continuously using a fitness tracker in MET-min per week and examined for associations with the patient’s quality of life and side effects. Results A significant impact of physical activity on quality of life, physical and role functioning, pain, fatigue, and an increase in appetite was shown. 52.70% of the patients reached the recommended WHO activity level of 600 MET-min per week at the 3-month measurement, and an increase of 5,41% was recorded at the 6-month measurement. There was a higher level of physical activity especially in the group of chemotherapy patients as well as a larger increase in their activity level with 3,88% from the 3 to the 6-month measurement. In addition, chemotherapy patients showed a greater association of their physical activity level with moderate effect size in terms of quality of life, role functioning and loss of appetite after 3 months as well as pain after 6 months. Conclusion As described in the literature, our results showed that physical activity increases well-being even under chemotherapy and reduces side effects in their extent. Furthermore, we were able to show that activity can be increased in patients even under oncological therapy. In the short term, therapy adherence and well-being can be improved and in the long term, physical activity can reduce morbidity and mortality.
